Australian moves to Los Angeles...true-life tales you MUST read!

Georgia Cassimatis speaks to the core of expats everywhere when she writes, “your heart will be in two places”. Only another expat could understand how it feels to love where you are and yet still so badly miss home. She is so right. I just wish is that someone had told me sooner so that I would have been better prepared for the tugging at my own heartstrings from Milwaukee to Sydney. She precisely captures the dilemma and confusion of a trailing spouse when she further writes, “No one told me how hard it would be. The disconnect, the expectation to replicate my life in Sydney in Los Angeles, I was utterly lost in translation. There is no course you could do to totally understand what moving to another country would put you through. It feels as if you are putting your brain in a blender and turning the switch on high.” I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about moving to a new country or even to someone who is just curious about what it is realistically like. It's worth every minute and her stories capture every emotion! Loved it...

Red Carpet Burns is a Frank Funny Memoir

One word of advice, don't ever play `I Never' with Georgia Cassimatis. There isn't much that hasn't happened to her and she has the hilarious stories to prove it. After growing up in suburban Sydney and scoring a plum job as magazine editor, she falls in love and leaves in all behind for the bright lights of LA. She ditches the guy but realizes that she loves the country and wants to stay on. Georgia creates a new life with the help of her ever colourful friends while she joins in the hardscrabble life of a freelance entertainment writer. Ms Cassimatis writes with optimism and humour even through her darkest times. If you are a romance reader longing for a happily ever after, you won't find it here. This is a funny but frank memoir about a young woman in her 30's refashioning her life in a foreign land. At the book's end, Georgia is still very much a work in progress, but, I think that was the point. Her memoir tells the story of a journey and not a destination. Yet, I for one hope she's keeping a journal. I'd very much like to know what happens next.

An amazing story!

What I loved about this book is that it's real. Duh, it's autobiographical, I get that. But it's a real story by a real person and it proves that we all have amazing stories to tell, whether we realise it or not. Georgia's story is amazing though it could be a great plot for a chick lit novel or romantic comedy. In fact it's a much better story than a lot of said novels and movies. I would go so far as to say that 'Red Carpet Burns' is a non-fiction novel which is a genre I personally love.
I get so much enjoyment from reading a great story and that's exactly what this book is. Plus Georgia is just so damn likeable. Not because she's trying to get you to like her, but because she's being herself and she is down to earth, funny (in that self deprecating kinda way), hard working, fun and adventurous. She's someone we can all relate to and I'm sure would love to share a bottle of wine with : )A working woman who falls in love? Someone who think she has it all figured out but then realises how much there is to learn and how life can throw you for a loop, often multiple times? How can most modern women not relate.
I particularly enjoyed this book because I work in film and TV and it gave me a good insight about the industry over there and how crazy Hollywood can be. I'm also an Australian who's spent a lot of time in the US and have a lot of American friends so I share Georgia's fondness for America and the people who I've found to be warm, friendly, generous, ambitious and enthusiastic.
Overall I couldn't put this book down. I was being completely antisocial at work when I was reading it, burying my face in it on my lunch breaks. It was purely a case of 'And then what happened? And then what happened?'. Ultimately I just wanted Georgia to find all the things she was looking for and be happy with her choices. This book is fun, sweet, great and compelling. And I will totally share a bottle of vino with Georgia anyday! If you want to read an amazing real life story you can't go past 'Red Carpet Burns'.
