About the Author
LeslieBeth Wish, EdD, MSS, MA, Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist LCSW, #7132FL, serves on the Medical Advisory Board for QualityHealth.com, a top ten health site. Named a top fifty social worker by the National Association of Social Workers, she is the founder of lovevictory.com and co-founder of the Counseling Network for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Dr. Wish has served on the faculty and administration of Webster University Graduate School Business and Counseling-Sarasota, and she has authored numerous workshops to the Academy of Lifelong Learning at the University of South Florida-Sarasota, and the Longboat Key Education Center. Dr. Wish earned her doctorate in developmental psychology at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, her master's in clinical social work and management from Bryn Mawr College, and her master's in English at Ohio University. Her post-degree training includes 3 years in the Marriage and Family program at Georgetown University, under the guidance of the nationally esteemed, belated Dr. Murray Bowen. She does corporate counseling and maintains a private practice in Sarasota, FL where she lives with her husband. This book helps women to wake up to real love!

Wish's book, "Smart Relationships, How Successful Women Can Find True Love," really delivers a message women need to wake up and listen to, that is, if they want true love. Based on her research, she reveals shocking things women do that worsen their love lives. And, the good news is that these are things women can change! Her research also proves that by being able to read men accurately, women can avoid ruining their lives, especially their love lives. Wish delivers sound research as well as great advice. If you're single and looking for love, this book is a must!

A Must-Have Love Guide for Women

"Smart Relationships" is a welcome departure from the overwhelming choices of simplistic self-help books that fill the shelves in the self-help section--and Internet choices. Dr. Wish is clearly a leading and trusted authority on the love problems of today's career-minded women. Her dedication to caring and helping women is evident. She is a thoughtful researcher who interviewed and followed up with thousands of women over several years. This book not only is their story but yours as well. The insights are profound, and the exercises and charts are clear, easy and fun to do. Yet, you will learn solid, reliable, insightful, and very surprising things about you and love. This book offers an inside view of women and love. Forget the too clever books about finding your soul mate. This book offers far wiser and deeper guidance.

A new dating book for professional women

Dr. Wish asked me to review her book because we are both psychologists who work with professional women around their love life issues. I was interested to read her research and found that I agreed with many of her points around dating and relationships for this group--for example family blueprints, some defensive love styles and her tips on being a love detective.
I would like to hear more about the research on the other side of a few of the issues mentioned. For example, 20% of professional women in her study felt they chose passive, less ambitious men and later regretted it. Did that mean that 80% had successful outcomes with those mates? This is of particular interest to me because men have long been choosing women who support their family and career so they can succeed. I have now seen many women consciously and successfully do this. Also, Dr. Wish mentions it is good to postpone sex when dating, for women. I find this to be the case for some women but see that many women are now able to differentiate sex and love (more like men) so I would have liked to hear about those exceptions, since I feel love gender stereotypes are changing, especially for this demographic. Also, she stresses that it's important for women to balance love and work. I agree but feel it is just as important for men to do the same and professional women should be aware not to fall into this stereotype in romantic relationships--that they need to be the only ones to do more at home.
Overall, I found Dr. Wish's research exciting and her book is more thorough than many of the pop psychology and self-help books out there, which I appreciate.
