About the Author
EVE BUNTING has writtenover two hundredbooks for children, including the Caldecott Medal-winning "Smoky Night, " illustrated by David Diaz, "The Wall", " Fly Away Home", and "Train to Somewhere". She lives in Southern California.
Josee Masse has always been drawing. Her father was a painter and as a child she remembers painting with him in his studio. After studying graphic arts in Montreal, she worked as a graphic designer before beginning her career as an illustrator. Josee loves illustrating books for children and enjoys working in her studio near Montreal.

If you think on a sunny weekend you should watch tv, then go to the book fair and buy Frog and Friends. Here's why. There's tons of {books in the} series. It's good for all ages. Each book has three stories. You can bring it anywhere. It is easy to read. It's not too boyish, not too girlish. It's appropriate. It is funny. Everyone likes it. There's a funny {story} when there's a funeral for a balloon. Now you know why I like Frog and Friends.

This is an exiting trio of stories about Frog and his friends for the young reader!

Frog loved relaxing at on a lily pad at his home on the pond. He had many friends, Rabbit, Raccoon, Squirrel, and Possum, that he enjoyed spending time with. In this book you can read about three adventures that Frog and his friends had in this beginning reader, a reader that can be read by several different types of readers.
Frog Goes Up, Up, Up
Frog had been taking a nap on his lily pad, but when he awoke there was something very strange floating in his pond. "It was BIG, BIG. / It was Orange. / It had a tail." Frog was very exited and wanted all his friends to take a look. Rabbit thought it could be a hippopotamus egg, but racoon thought it might just be a "humongous seed." Everyone had their own ideas, but when it came toward them and frog grabbed its tail there was going to be big trouble!
Frog's Pretty Blue Scarf
Raccoon stopped by Frog's house with a nice blue scarf she had knit for him. Frog was recovering from a cold and was sitting on his lily pad snacking on a kabob of flies. He told Raccoon that the scarf would be perfect, but it truly wasn't. It slipped over his face and then over his eyes because he had no neck to keep it down. There was one solution and that was to give it to a friend. "I will give this pretty blue scarf to my friend, Rabbit. There is nothing wasted that you give to a friend." Rabbit, Squirrel, and Possum had trouble with the scarf. Who was going to be able to wear it?
Frog and Hippo
Frog was lying on his lily pad watch a butterfly when all of a sudden he heard something go "CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CLUMP. CLUMP, CRUNCH, CRUNCH." What in the world could possibly be making that funny sound? When Frog peered over the edge of his pond he saw a BIG critter. It was Hippopotamus. Frog figured he "must be the biggest animal in the world," but he "was the first one he had seen." Hippopotamus told Frog all about his life in the Little Zoo and how he had run "away to see the world." He asked Frog if he could join him in the world, but would there be enough room in the pond for the both of them?
This is an exiting trio of stories about Frog and his friends for the young reader. The book is a beginning chapter book, one with loosely connected stories that can be read in sequence or alone. Although it is intended for the confident or newly independent reader, there are suggestions in the front of the book that parents, teachers, or caretakers can use in assisting readers of several levels, including nonreading and emergent. The bright, colorful, chipper artwork meshes well with the stories. Frog and his friends will definitely charm the young readers with their adventures. They will immediately recognize that big "strange object in the pond" and will be exited as they follow the madcap gang of friends from the first page to the last!

Wonderful and Humorous

Just read this tonight with my 7-yr-old daughter, who is proficient at reading. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole book, and the interplay between the stories. The illustrations were great, but the strength of the book was the illustrations and the humor of the characters' speech and interactions. We particularly loved the hippo story and the use of the word "spiffy"!
