About the Author
Stephen J. Binz (SSL, Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome) is ta popular speaker and the highly regarded author of over two dozen books. He is the former director of Little Rock Scripture Study, used in churches throughout the world, and founder and author of Threshold Bible Study. He is also the former editor-in-chief of God's Word Today magazine and is a licensed psychotherapist. Binz lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Great book for a group

I have been using this book privately and with a group and have found it to be a great asset in understanding these familiar gospel messages. The comments during the group sessions are insightful and inspiring and it seems that each member of the group finds a different and compelling message. I would recommend this book for both private contemplative prayer and group sessions. Indeed, it recommends both. Each story is brought to light in a way not thought of before

Eye-opening While Sipping Salt Walter

I must applaud Binz for demonstrating that Mary Magdalene and other female disciples of Jesus were not the way Pope Gregory wanted us all to believe for centuries (his way is not taught anymore for anyone under the age of 25). Still, the book has its faults.
While Binz enlightens us on Early Christian views of female discipleship, a perspective far different from Pope Gregory's 6th century epochal depiction of Mary Magdalene that changed the course of female discipleship in the Catholic Church for millennia, Binz also fails to provide coherent, convincing content to buttress his interpretations. Another major flaw appears in his contemplation and inquiry sections. Binz uses leading questions that do a disservice to any inquiring mind in a bible study group, and basically provide the answer he's seeking in subsequent questions.
While I like Binz on the whole, his inconsistent treatment of the Gospels and his over-reliance on Luke compel me to question his interpretations more than accept them. Still, this was an eye-opener for all of the males in my bible study group. None of them had even an inkling ...

Super Feministic!

This just isn't my thing. I feel like the author makes a lot of points by stretching the Bible to fit the message. I just am not a fan of this kind of thing. I prefer studying the Bible and gleaning from it! Rather, than trying to make the Bible say something that I WANT to hear.
