Wordy worldly wordplay. Turnip.

There's a lot of wordplay to love here, but there doesn't seem to be a lot else. Sometimes the author really threw me for a loop, which was pleasant or irritating, depending on my mood. I'll have to re read and see if the seemingly random bits were in fact random.

Beautiful and smart

Adam Fitzgerald's The Late Parade is one of the best books I've read all year. It is gorgeously complex and Fitzgerald brilliantly mixes his densely populated, 21st century city of images into and out of pleasing iambics. New new new formalism with Ashberian imagination. Check out the opening to "Nigerian Spammer"--a personal favorite:
A boy in jockstraps is a joy forever
He will be such, the puppet of a comb,
Handling strings and primal dramas
From The American Songbook of 1810--
Even stirring what your face bares,
Namely, silence, placidity, a mobility
Of so much rage and delirium that here
In the hapless flight of dinky stands,
